US Direct Loans Training Session
Tirsdag den 29. marts 2011 afholder Styrelsen for International Uddannelse en træningssession om US Federal Direct Loans på International Center ved Århus universitet.
US Federal Direct Loans - et af programmerne under Federal Student Aid (FSA) - gør det muligt for uddannelsesinstitutioner som er akkrediteret af US Department of Education, at varetage føderalt subsidierede studielån til amerikanske studerende på hele uddannelser.
Træningssessionen gennemføres af Erich McElroy, repræsentant for Global Education Management Services (GEMS), et amerikansk konsulentbureau med speciale i blandt andet student aid management.
Træningssessionen henvender sig først og fremmest til de videregående uddannelsesinstitutioner som deltager i Federal Direct Loan programmet eller som står overfor at søge om optagelse i det. Der er i alt 20 pladser.
Et begrænset antal observatørpladser vil dog være til rådighed for repræsentanter fra uddannelsesinstitutioner som har særligt fokus på rekruttering af amerikanske studerende til hele uddannelser, men som endnu ikke har kendskab til programmet.

10.00-12.00 The A-Z of the US Direct Loan program (part one)
- Introduction to the key elements of the US Student Loan programs & overview of institutional responsibilities and the benefits for the US students.
- Discussion of the Institutional Application for Title IV aid - the certification and recertification process.
- Overview crucial institutional liability and eligibility issues.
12.00 - 12.45 Lunch
12.45-14.00 The A-Z of the US Direct Loan program (part two)
- The required financial set up of the HEI (including financial reconciliation/cash management) – with an overview of the financial requirements and an outline of the flow of funds from the Department of Education once you've joined the program (Covering issues of disbursement and how the loans are paid)
- Review Return of Funds requirements (refunds) for students who withdraw from the program
14.00 - 14.15 Coffee Break
14.15 - 15.00 A full year administrating the program – Online processes
- Online processes and computing requirements (loan initiation & electronic processes - COD, G5, NSLDS, FAA Access Online, EdConnect, EdExpress)
15.00-16.00 Audit Presentation – summary of the Audit process
- This session reviews the issues that will be examined in the yearly external audit, which is a program requirement to ensure the institutions compliance with the aid programs
